In 2006 I went to prison for the first time.
One Sunday morning I attended a church service where a visiting pastor named Mother Vincent
was speaking.
I chose to sit quietly in the back of the room because I didn’t want to draw attention to myself.
During the prayer circle she suddenly looked directly at me and asked my name.
Then she told me to come forward.
She placed her hands on my head and began to pray. After praying, she spoke words that I would
never forget.
She said that I belonged to God’s holy family. She told me that I had taken off the robe God had
given me in exchange for money and women, but that God wanted me to put it back on because
He had a calling for my life.
Standing there listening to her words, I began to cry.
At the time I didn’t fully understand what she meant.
But as I thought about the many signs and experiences that had already occurred in my life, her
words began to make sense.
She had just confirmed something that had been unfolding for years.
Looking back now, I see that moment as one of the clearest validations of my purpose.
